This is Me.

2018.
I mean really.
2018.
It seems crazy and yet I’m here writing a post about 2018.
Where to start with this.
I’m scared. I’m nervous. I’m not sure what to do.
2018 has been screaming at me since the beginning of December. Yelling at me, this is the year to be brave. This is the year to push and get what you truly want. This is the year.
I’m not the most confident person.
I worry before, during and after every photo session.
I worry if it is going to be a good shoot. If I will have amazing pictures for it.
I use it to dive deep into the world of photography.
But this year, I am going to grow. I am going to step up. I am going to be more confident. I am going to see myself grow even faster!
I’m ready for it.
I’m ready for 2018.
Recently I watched the Greatest Showman and the music hit a chord in my soul. Especially one of the songs… This is Me.
“I am brave, I am bruised
I am who I’m meant to be, this is me
Look out ’cause here I come
And I’m marching on to the beat I drum
I’m not scared to be seen
I make no apologies, this is me.”
Be brave. Be Bruised. Make no apologies for you and let’s celebrate you with a session. Message me and let this year be a celebration of you!

Under Construction

Hey guys…

Sorry it’s been a bit since I have posted on my blog. But in the last however long, I have felt like my website/blog does not fit me anymore. So during the rest of December and all of January, I’ll be working on it to make it the website I can be proud of again. Check back often to see what is new. I promise you I’ll holler when everything is set up how I like it!

April | Self Portrait

Yeah, I know it’s the middle of May… I’m just impressed I actually took it in April on a beautiful windy day. I had this idea in my head for several days and just decided to finally do it. My favorite ended up being a little blurry and probably not the best image I have ever taken but dang it, I love it! Now to spend some time this summer playing with different photoshop thoughts and see what I can create!

Are you doing a self-portrait project? Let me know in the comments!

Happy Mother’s Day!!!

It’s hard sometimes to know what to say to Mothers on Mother’s Day. Both your own as well as those you see daily. But I hate to break it to you, everyone deserves an awesome mother’s day whether you are an aunt, a grandmother, a mother, a animal-mom, a mom of babies in heaven, etc. A mom is someone who takes care of someone and loves someone. You are a mother forever…

So enjoy this wonderful amazing beautiful day! And celebrate it if you want or celebrate the beautiful day!

To help celebrate this gorgeous day, here are some mothers from some recent sessions… mother's day, newborn, all mothers, grandmother, stepmom mother's day, newborn, all mothers, grandmother, stepmom mother's day, newborn, all mothers, grandmother, stepmom mother's day, newborn, all mothers, grandmother, stepmom

Lost Hill Park | Thorne Family

Family portraits are definitely something that is needed in your life. Other than some family photos at my wedding and my brother’s wedding, my family has not had the chance to take family portraits together. It is hard when you are split up around Missouri let alone if your family is even further.

This lovely family let me take some pictures of them this past fall. It was such a beautiful day! Eliza did amazing… and Amaya tried her best! Even grumpy smiles are adorable when families look back at the amazingness that is them. Ben’s mother was even able to join in some pictures.

Crafty | Wheeled Pottery

It’s something about photographers that we need to do crafty stuff no matter what that may be. I think it’s because we get in stuck with an idea and we need to do something to get back to where we want to be.

Well, the last three months I have been creating wheeled pottery. It’s seriously one of the most unique things I have ever done! And I love it. It is time consuming in a time when everything is instant. I was surprised to find out that the hardest part was slowing down and being patient about the end product. With using a wheel for pottery, everything is hinged on the fact that the clay will do what you trying to make it do. Most of the time, it’s not going to do what you want it to do. You are just going to have to fight with it. One girl I met after trying something for a year, finally made a chip and salsa bowl! It’s harder than you think.

There is like five main steps to do wheel pottery.
First step centering the clay, then growing the clay.
Next, trimming the piece. Making it level and giving it a foot? (still don’t understand that.)
Then they have to fire it the first time.
After they fire it, you get to paint it!
Finally they have to fire it again!

After taking the class I have learned more about myself than I ever thought I would. I am an instant person. I never would have said that before that class. I like being able to instantly see what amazing photos photographers are creating. I like being able to get the movie review before I watch the movie. I like getting crafty things done quickly. I don’t like waiting for the “paint” to dry or for the shoot to be put together.

So I guess my goal for this year is to slow down and wait for the paint to dry and be okay with it!

Business Book | April 2017

Sometimes you just pick up a business book and it turns out to be the right one to read. That’s what happened to me the other day on the way to a wedding rehearsal… I picked up “How to Get Ideas” by Jack Foster. It was one of those books I picked up from the Library book sale. The ones that have just sat there staring at me. What an amazing book! It was so easy to read and made you want to divide into his different suggestions to get started.

He put the definition in of idea that he most agreed with. “An idea is nothing more or less than a new combination of old elements.” Stop, read that again. Oh my gosh, that statement alone hit me with a ton of bricks. I guess I had never really stopped and thought about it that way. Getting ideas depending on you accepting what you think about yourself and your belief that the idea does exist.  He encourages people to visualize their ideas and to not be afraid of getting it wrong. He suggested several ways to help gain more ideas… Think visually. Think laterally. Don’t assume Boundaries that aren’t there. Set some limits. Define the problem. Do something about your idea everyday.

My favorite piece of advice from his book — “At first ideas are hard to find. Then they come in bunches. Don’t stop and analyze them. Write them down for analysis later. Don’t stop the ideas.”

Definitely one I’m putting on my list to read yearly!

Ozark Mill Engagement | Clay + April

Reconnecting with old friends is one of the awesome reasons I love photography. I met Clay and April when I was working on the ambulance in Lebanon. April was an EMT (emergency medical technician) like me and studying to be a nurse. Clay was one of my paramedic partners. After April passed her boards, she left EMS. Then Clay did as well becoming a paramedic. They reconnected in the last year or so and feel completely in love!

After Clay surprised her by proposing to her in the middle of their family session, the three of us went to get some engagement pictures to capture the moment!

Man! I loved the light that afternoon/evening! Can’t wait for summer/fall lighting and feel again. engagement session, engagement, nature, mill, ozark, Missouri, red, shells, EMS, Emergency Medical Services , ambulance, ring, blue

February | Self Portrait

I realized the other week during my Spring Break that I was putting off my self-portrait project. I was putting it off because I didn’t have the outfits or the ideas like some of the fantasy photographers I follow. I was putting it off because I was comparing myself to what they were doing. I was comparing my self. I was worrying about my self image. I was worried about how fat I have been becoming.

I was worrying about a whole host of things that I didn’t have any business worrying about because I’m not them. I’m not in the same place in this journey. I’m at the beginning of trying to take good self-portraits. I’m at the beginning of believing that I can take a good picture. I’m starting to collect things that would make a good picture. I’m at the beginning. I’m starting.

Everyone started someplace and I need to remember that.

So here is my super late should have been March self portrait but is February self-portrait.
